Andrea Pell is a native of New York and received her professional training in New York City under Thalia Mara and American Ballet Theatre School, and in Budapest, Hungary at The Hungarian National Ballet Institute. In 1975 she joined The Berlin Ballet in Germany and worked with major dancers and choreographers including Rudolph Nureyev, Eva Evdokimova, Hans van Manen, Jiri Kylian, Moses Pendleton, John Neumeier, Peter Schaufuss, Maurice Bejart and Roland Petit during her fifteen year tenure with the company. Upon leaving the stage, Andrea attended The Benesh Institute of Choreology in London for studies in Movement Notation and was awarded the title of ‘FI Chor’ upon presentation of her notation score, an original commissioned ballet for The Atlanta Ballet. Thereupon, Atlanta Ballet’s Artistic Director, Robert Barnett, invited her to oversee The Atlanta School of Ballet and Atlanta Ballet II. She was Artistic Director of both until John McFall took directorship of Atlanta Ballet in 1997. She remained two years overseeing Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education’s Buckhead satellite school. She also guest-taught and coached at companies and schools around the United States.
The Singapore Dance Theatre invited Andrea in 1999 as Guest-Repetiteur where she worked alongside choreographers including Stanton Welch, Jean-Paul Comelin, and Janeck Schergen, assisting with original works, as well as restaging ballets of Choo San Goh. During her time in the Asia-Pacific, Andrea also coached medal winners for The Japan Ballet Competition and was Guest-Repetiteur for The Australian Ballet and The National Ballet of China.
In 2000, Andrea joined the faculty of the newly created SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, chaired by Stanislav Issaev. After teaching at Metropolitan Ballet Theatre for five years she moved to New England where she taught extensively throughout the region, including Burklyn Ballet, Boston University, and Boston Ballet School, and schools in Vermont and New Hampshire. Upon returning to Georgia in 2017, Andrea began The Ballet Conservatory of North Georgia at The Buford School of Ballet.
Andrea is very honored and looking forward to being a part of The Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance and The Roswell Dance Theatre.
