Training that encourages dancers to find new ways to express themselves.

Established in 2014 as the Roswell Dance Theatre Modern Company, the newly restructured Movement Collective (MoCo) is North Fulton’s premiere company for young contemporary dancers. Movement Collective Director Gia Mongell Binner has broadened the focus to include training grounded in classical modern roots, along with the exploration of current dance forms in the ever-evolving professional dance industry. MoCo dancers connect with industry professionals to explore a variety of dance styles and experience the versatility training required by the commercial dance industry (which includes Broadway, TV/film, cruise ships, Disney, and more).

Unique instruction in different techniques combined with ongoing performance opportunities sets this select group apart from other companies in the area. MoCo Director Gia Mongell Binner seeks out current industry professionals in all facets of commercial dance to provide master classes and to set work on the company. MoCo dancers are also invited to audition for roles in Roswell Dance Theatre’s annual production of The Nutcracker and the PrePro Spring Concert; present a showcase of relevant choreography at the annual MoCo Show; and attend/participate in dance festivals.

RDT’s MoCo focuses on each dancer’s individual artistry within a wide variety of dance techniques. Dancers must audition for acceptance/placement in the company. The current company levels include: Premiere, Ensemble, Swing, Principal, and Elite. MoCo strives to emphasize process over product in its training, an approach that sets the RDT MoCo apart from other companies in the area.

The Movement Collective presents a showcase each year in the spring to studio families and larger community. The event promotes the artistry of a variety of dance styles, highlighting the MoCo dancers’ hard work and promoting membership. Alumni, guest artists, faculty and MoCo members come together for the showcase, which is followed by a reception for all guests.

Proceeds from the event are used to support guest artists and purchase costumes and resources for the company.
