Hugs From Young Choreographers

Hugs From Young Choreographers is an annual charity event held at the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance main building. Top level Roswell Dance Theatre Ballet Company members present three performances to benefit a charity of their choosing. Each Choreographer selects music, cast and costumes to create an original masterpiece. HUGS allows our young people to showcase their talents to the public and show the community how effective young people can be when they join together to make an impact.

Before the Show / During Intermission

Along with the original choreographic works, we stage a silent auction during all three performances to raise additional money for the charity. Doors open 1/2 hour before the show for previewing and opening bids. Our patrons enjoy bidding on the amazing auction baskets — full of gift cards to local restaurants and shops, Mrs Mary’s home-baked treats, private lessons with a favorite teacher, and much more! Bidding closes at the end of intermission and items are awarded at the end of each show. Dancers in the crowd also look forward to the selection of hand-decorated pointe shoes that have been made by the choreographers.

ALL proceeds go to the selected charity.

The Charity

This year, the dancers will use their time and athletic abilities to raise money for the MDE School, a private special needs school in the East Cobb area whose mission is to provide a loving environment for all children with delayed communication and language processing skills. MDE strives to give all its students the opportunity to learn in a child-directed, developmentally appropriate environment, where learning takes place in a meaningful and natural manner. They highly regard each child’s self-worth and self-confidence as they foster the development of healthy, self-assured individuals.

In Lieu of Tickets…

The intimacy of this event in our main studio “black box” makes it special for everyone who attends. You can see the dancers’ faces, hear them breathing, feel what they are feeling… Instead of selling tickets, we request that our audience members share with us, as we share with them, and make a minimum $5 donation at the door.

I want to support the HUGS concerts.
