Hugs From Young Choreographers is an annual charity event held at the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance main building. Top level Roswell Dance Theatre Ballet Company members present three performances to benefit a charity of their choosing. Each Choreographer selects music, cast and costumes to create an original masterpiece. HUGS allows our young people to showcase their talents to the public and show the community how effective young people can be when they join together to make an impact.

ENCORE PRESENTATION

Thank you to everyone who attended our HUGS shows last weekend – all 3 shows were sold to capacity! We also had a large livestream audience and received lots of great feedback from all our virtual HUGS supporters.

For anyone who did not have a chance to see the show last weekend (or anyone who just wants to see it again!) we are offering a livestream Encore Presentation. (This show will only be available for a limited time and will not be available for downloading.)

Please click the button to participate in our virtual Encore audience. Thank you for all your support!

I want to support this year’s HUGS event.

The Charity

This year, the dancers will use their time and athletic abilities to raise money for the Roswell Dance Theatre Dance Relief Fund, which will provide support to the company and its members. The unprecedented events of 2020 have deeply impacted RDT and its members are doing their part to raise funds for the organization that has been a second home to so many of them throughout their childhood.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit America in March, performing arts companies were among the first to suspend operations and temporarily close their doors, to their own members and to their patrons. RDT immediately began to provide a wide offering of livestream dance classes, but had to cancel all spring 2020 performances, and sustain the loss of revenue that would have offset the expense of preparing those shows. As many businesses reopen, performing arts companies still have many challenges to overcome in the enduring effort to keep their members and patrons safe and healthy. Roswell Dance Theatre is resilient in the face of these challenges, with its membership dedicated to the belief that the arts have the power to help heal the deep wounds our community has suffered.

HUGS Boutique

Along with the original choreographic works, we will have a small HUGS boutique with items for sale at all three performances to raise additional money for the charity. Our younger dancers always look forward to previewing the wide collection of hand-decorated pointe shoes made by the choreographers and picking at least one special one to take home as a keepsake. The HUGS 2020 boutique will be located in the breezeway at our new facility and will be open:

Friday Sept 11 from 4-8pm
Saturday Sept 12 from 9-1 and 3-8:30
Sunday Sept 13 from 1:30-3:30

ALL proceeds will go to the Roswell Dance Theatre Dance Relief Fund.

Silent Auction

HUGS fundraising efforts also includes a silent auction each year. For the health and safety of our patrons, the auction will be online this year. The auction opens Wednesday Sept 9 and closes Sunday Sept 13 at 2:30. There will be many amazing auction baskets – Mrs. Mary’s and Ms. Jena’s home-baked treats, private lessons with a favorite teacher, and more! Winners can claim their items Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:30, or make arrangements with Diane Schram for a pickup time.

*To bid in our auction you must first create an account on the auction website.

ALL proceeds will go to the Roswell Dance Theatre Dance Relief Fund.
